Committees

While the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce has an amazing and efficient staff, we can't always do everything ourselves. The chamber has several committees, which are staffed by our members to assist with events and to help us keep on track and on top of current issues. Several of our committees meet on an "as needed basis" where others have scheduled monthly meetings. All committees are always looking for new members to participate and offer new ideas and opinions.

Groton Business Association (GBA)
The GBA brings the business community together, through monthly meetings, Groton Business Updates and Economic Forecasts. The GBA also coordinates the Groton Lights Parade and Groton’s Fall Festival.

Mystic Cooperative Task Group
The Mystic Cooperative Task Group was established in 1996 to work on issues in the Mystic area. The group includes representatives of both town governments, major tourist attractions, the local business community, appointed land use and historic commission members and local residents.

Marine Affairs Committee
The Marine Affairs Committee's mission is to coordinate cooperation and collaboration of business and boaters who affect or are affected by local coastal waterways. The committee produces the Mystic Boater's Guide to help transient boaters who visit the Mystic area. And to showcase the Mystic River, the committee produces the Holiday Lighted Boat Parade.

Holiday Lighted Boat Parade
Holiday Lighted Boat Parade presented by Groton Utilities and Thames Valley Communications is a Parade of lighted and decorated vessels.
Judging and awards take place for the most spectacular vessels. Vessels of any size are welcome, and the only cost to participate is a toy for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. The 2012 parade will take place on November 24th at 6:15 pm. Please note that due to bridge construction the entire parade will take place south of the bridge. The parade will line up and begin at Seaport Marine, pass Mystic River Park, circle in front of the bridge and then loop down in front of the Amtrak Bridge. After preforming another loop boaters can tie up at Seaport Marine, the park or head home. The parade is also being capped at 25 boats because of this year's space restrictions. Registration is also mandatory. So if you are interested in participating in the event please send in your application soon. The parade is a dazzling way to begin the festive season! Membership Committee
The Membership Committee is dedicated to maintaining the growth of the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce through promotion, recognition and by providing benefits that will help area business achieve success.

Welcome Neighbor Program
The Chamber Welcome Neighbor Program is an outreach program from Chamber member businesses to new home owners in New London County. It is an opportunity to provide new home owners with a package of coupons and flyers featuring member businesses. The coupons will be personally delivered to the homeowners at no cost to the Chamber or the business owner other than the printing costs for the flyers and coupons.

Annual Dinner
This annual event is the chamber's premier event for the year.
The dinner is a celebration of new and former board members and a chance to honor someone in our community with the Community Service Award, Employer of the Year Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award. Our silent auction nets about $10,000 and has become an important part of the evening. Dancing to The Cartells concludes this event.

Mystic Chamber of Commerce Foundation
The charitable foundation was set up to oversee the Joshua Piver Scholarship and other charitable causes as needed.

Taste of Mystic
This committee meets to coordinate details of Taste of Mystic, the annual event that features the culinary delights of area restaurants. Committee responsibilities including seeking out sponsorship, coordinating the beer tent, coordinating volunteers and more!
