Distinguished Friends of the Navy in SECT,

On behalf of CAPT Paul Whitescarver, Commanding Officer, Naval Submarine Base New London, I invite you to a special base event:

The Navy in the Southeastern Connecticut area will celebrate the 242nd Birthday of the Navy during a celebration at Noon, Friday, October 13, at the Historic Ship Nautilus and Submarine Force Museum.

On October 13, 1775, the Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, voted to send two swift-sailing, armed vessels to cruise against transports carrying munitions to the British Army in America.  The Continental Navy began the proud tradition that is carried on today by our United States Navy.

The Birthday Celebration will include a ceremonial bell ringing; a cake cutting; colors presented by the Silver Dolphin Color Guard from Naval Submarine School; and, music by Groton's West Side Middle School Band.

In conjunction with our Birthday Event, the Navy in the Southeastern Connecticut area will also host our Fourth Annual "Meet Your Navy" event from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., in the  Submarine Force Museum Parking Lot.

Once again, "Meet Your Navy" will be a fair like event with various local Navy commands highlighting what they do, or a unique mission related activity, through informational tables or engaging demonstrations.  Anticipated static displays at the event include: a Navy Harbor Security Boat, and various vehicles and fire apparatus. Anticipated activities will range from knot tying and an inflatable obstacle course to diving gear "show & tell." There will also be Military Working Dog demonstrations and drill team exhibitions. Opportunities to interact with Sailors from variety of ratings and base commands will abound.

These events are free and open to the public, so by all means, please feel free to pass along invitations to friends of the Navy and SUBASE.

Uniform for military attendees is Uniform of the Day.

If there are any questions that we may be able to answer, please do not hesitate to ask.

Thanking you in advance, and looking forward to the possibility of your attendance,

V/R
