Pumpkins Beware!

Stonington Community Center’s Annual Pumpkin Chunkin Returns

Stonington, CT: Pumpkins should consider this their fair warning. Come Sunday, Oct. 22 pumpkins will take flight as they are launched through the air, hopefully striking wooden targets, to the cheers of onlookers.

It’s the return of the Stonington Community Center (COMO)’s annual Pumpkin Chunkin event. An annual celebration of fall, this event brings together community, families and individuals young and young at heart for an afternoon of hurling pumpkins, tasty food and treats, music and other autumn diversions!

Participants will have their choice of launching pumpkins via a ballista, a catapult or a giant slingshot in order to hit the intended targets. Those who prefer to keep fall gourds on the ground and not flying through the air towards imminent destruction can enjoy other activities offering an array of autumn-themed amusement. Enjoy fair food, take a bounce in the moon bounce, or test your skill at some traditional fair games!

“The Pumpkin Chunkin embodies the mission of the COMO – bringing people together and building community ties,” says Beth-Ann Stewart, COMO Executive Director. “People get caught up in the excitement, rooting each other on and cheering when they get a hit. We love that for over 70 years, we’re able to continue to provide unique experiences engage our community.”

The Pumpkin Chunkin is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 22 from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Owens Field, Stonington Borough. Entry is free. Tickets may be purchased to participate in the chunkin event and other activities. More details about the event can be found online at thecomo.org/pumpkin-chunkin.
