Meet the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce Staff

Bruce Flax, President

Bruce Flax has joined the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce after working in Entertainment and Marketing at Foxwoods Resort Casino for 26 years.

As a 25 year resident of Groton, who served on the Town Council and as Mayor, Bruce has a wealth of local knowledge. He looks forward to focusing the Chamber on its members and working to successfully open Mystic back up for business as COVID becomes manageable through vaccination and safe behavior.

Morgan Yandow, Membership Manager

Morgan Yandow graduated from Franklin & Marshall College in 2014 and then started working in Mystic, Connecticut for Noank Shipyard and Seaport Marine. After spending three years in the marina industry, Morgan moved to Boston where she worked as a Human Resource Professional for a top-ten accounting firm for four years. When COVID-19 hit, she decided it was time to move back to Mystic, the place she knew she would eventually move back to at some point in her life. Morgan joined the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce in April of 2021 as the Marketing and Events Manager and then shortly after moved over to Membership. In addition to her role at the Mystic Chamber, Morgan is actively pursuing her MBA at Providence College. Her extensive background in connecting with others, putting people first and her knowledge of business operations and management has made her the perfect fit as the Membership Manager.

Morgan grew up summering in Mystic and is familiar with all the shops, neighborhoods and has become a friendly face to the community, businesses and to the place she now calls home. The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to have Morgan as part of the team and is looking forward to her expanding the membership program in the near future.

Solveig Persson, Marketing and Events Specialist

Solveig Persson joined the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce as the Marketing and Events Specialist after graduating from the University of Rhode Island Class of 2020. She completed her undergraduate and earned a B.A. in Public Relations and Business Management with a focus in Event Coordination.

For 2 years she interned with the Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce and gained experience in tourism marketing by working closely with local businesses across the Ocean State and Southeastern Connecticut. Solveig commuted to her job in Downtown Mystic throughout college and at the beginning of 2020 made the move to the beautiful seaside town, which she now calls home.

Solveig is passionate about Mystic, it’s history and growing opportunities and is always looking to expand relationships with local merchants and with the community. She explains that “Throughout the pandemic, we saw much of the country suffering from the global challenges COVID brought upon us, but here in Mystic we saw many businesses not only opening but thriving”.

As the Marketing and Events Specialist at the GMCC, Solveig is excited to be a part of this booming economy and to advocate for small and large businesses in our area. She does this by coordinating monthly networking events where members can showcase their business, ribbon cuttings to celebrate new businesses and promoting the shoulder seasons to tourists across New England through effective social media marketing campaigns.
