GMCC Traveling Visitor Center

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce had an idea to create a traveling Visitor Center that could not only be parked in Mystic to help people navigate the area, but also to bring to events within a 30 to 40 mile radius, and promote our region.  With help from the Towns of Stonington and Groton, the Chamber used Federal Covid funds to buy and develop the Touring Visitor Center. The truck, a 1983 formal postal mail truck, will hit the road spreading the word about the Mystic Region. Look for the truck at ribbon cuttings, Chamber and Area Events, and member businesses. The truck was purchased on EBAY in 2022 from Jeff Walters of Houston, Texas. He renovated the AM General FJ8C 1983 Postal Truck into Thrilla N Vanilla, a working ice cream truck.  Antonino Auto Group had it shipped to Mystic where they helped start repairing it.  We eventually brought it to Guy Palazzo, a good friend and a mechanic (who happens to also play in the 60's Explosion Show).  He did amazing work and was very generous to the Chamber. Graphic Designer Abbie Park, who had helped the chamber for the Mystic Bascule Bridge Anniversary in 2022, worked with us on the design of the truck.  Critical Sign, owners Shawn and Jenn got the old wrap off and installed the new wrap.

Mystic is more than just a town, it is a magical place........It has been more than just a town since that small movie happened in 1986.  Now Mystic is a hub for the latest food renaissance with well known Chefs and culinary experiences crafted from all around the world.

The region includes the best beaches in Misquamicut, New London, and the Boardwalk of Niantic, the best in entertainment at Foxwoods and Mohegan, and the number one atractions in the State of CT with Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium and the Mystic River Bascule Bridge.

The Touring Visitor center will travel all over NE and drive people to the region for multiple experiences and longer stays. This vehicle provides the messaging for our Mystic Region.

We are the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce and we represent the Mystic Region.
