Admission: free
Location: Olde Mistick Village, Exit 90 off I-95 in Mystic, CT

Olde Mistick Village will take on the warm and welcome aroma of chowder as the merchants of Olde Mistick Village host their 11th Annual Cabin Fever Festival and Charity Chowder Cook-Off on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. All proceeds from this event benefit the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center Emergency Food Pantry.

Tickets are $1 for each 3 oz. cup of chowder – or you can purchase 12 tickets for $10. Tickets will be on sale the day of the event at a variety of locations throughout Olde Mistick Village.

Vicki Anderson, Executive Director of the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, says “The Chowder Cook-off is such an important event not only for the financial help but for the awareness it raises about hunger in our community – and the Emergency Food Pantry of PNC. Use of food pantries, nationwide and in our local community, is at an all-time high. Besides help with emergency food, the PNC offers emergency fuel assistance, free clothing, and infant essentials such as diapers and formula. The Center provides free transportation for seniors living within the service area of Stonington, CT and Westerly, RI as well as programs for seniors and people of all ages. Please call Vicki Anderson at 860-599-3285 for information on any of PNC’s services.

Over 25 of the area’s finest restaurants and caterers will compete for top awards for Best Chowder. In addition to the People’s Choice Award a team of local media celebrities will be judging in the categories of 1) Most Creative Chowder; 2) Heartiest Chowder; and 3) Best Use of Regional Ingredients. All awards will be presented on the same day by Senators Diana Urban and Andrew Maynard in the Meeting House in Olde Mistick Village at 5:00 p.m.

Over the years, the Chowder Cook-off has raised between $4,000 and $13,000. Lu Lupovich, chairperson for the event said “With our great area restaurants we just know we will exceed last year’s high of over $13,000 raised – Cabin Fever really brings people together for a great event benefiting such an important organization in our community. “

Each restaurant donates at least 20 gallons of chowder for the event, and has a sponsoring shop in Olde Mistick Village where space will be set aside to serve chowder. The general public will vote for the People’s Choice Awards. A locator map of the shops, restaurants and ticket locations will be available on the day of Cabin Fever.

An event in Olde Mistick Village would not be complete without the FREE outdoor events that will be happening throughout the afternoon geared to the young and old of all ages. Stay tuned for a listing of our events and times and locations.
