Photographer Alexander Nesbitt to Speak at Mystic Seaport
Travel photographer, documentarian and Newport, RI, native Alexander “Sandy” Nesbitt will present, “From Orphanage to Mountaintop,” at the 2010-2011 Adventure Series at Mystic Seaport Thursday, December 16.
Presentations will be given at 1:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the River Room at Latitude 41°.
Nesbitt will present a visual documentation of his travels throughout Africa and up Mount Kilimanjaro in support of Flying Kites, a children’s home located in Njabini, Kenya. The photographer took on the pro-bono documentation project in search of professional revitalization and fulfillment, joining Flying Kites’ children and volunteers at numerous Nairobi orphanages and on their Adventure Challenge fund drive to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Nesbitt will share not only his stunning images, but will also reveal the personal dreams that were fulfilled along his journey.
In 2004, Nesbitt won the Travel Photographer of the Year Award in the “Spirit of Adventure” category. His photographs have appeared on the cover of National Geographic Adventure magazine, as a double spread in Outsider magazine and in other publications. He resides in Newport, RI, where his travels through Brazil, Cuba, Africa and other locales are exhibited at his storefront studio, Blink Gallery.
The Mystic Seaport Adventure Series runs once a month from October 2010 through April 2011. Individual-program tickets are $14 ($12 for members) for the afternoon presentation and $15 ($13 for members) for the evening presentation. Students can purchase tickets at the discounted rate of $5.
