The Mystic River Historical Society announces its spring bus trip from April 25-28, 2011 to the Philadelphia area and Delaware, featuring historic places and beautiful gardens.

The trip begins early Monday, April 25, 2011, making the first stop at Washington’s Headquarters in Morristown, NJ. After lunch and exploring, go on to a late afternoon tour of Valley Forge with a step-on guide and appropriate stops. Stay overnight overlooking Valley Forge.

On Tuesday, April 26, the first stop will be the American Swedish Historical Museum in south Philadelphia. This Delaware River area was first settled by the Swedes in the early 1600s and still retains a strong Swedish influence. Continue on to the Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, DE where the du Pont history in America begins. The hotel for this night and the next will be in Kennett Square, PA.

Most of Wednesday, April 27th will be spent in New Castle, DE in their numerous small museums and house museums. A possible stop will be made at the Old Swedes Church in Wilmington. Then on Thursday, April 28, begin the day at the Barnes Foundation outside of Philadelphia. Be among the last groups to enjoy the art at the Barnes as it was intended to be seen before it is moved its glorious house to a new museum facility in downtown Philadelphia. The last stop is the beautiful gardens of Chanticleer in Wayne, PA before arriving back in Mystic in early evening.

The price for each person sharing a room, including all transportation, accommodations, all breakfasts, three lunches, two dinners and supper, all admissions, snacks and extras, and medical cancellation insurance is $695. The cost for a single is $875. A nonrefundable $200.00 deposit for a shared room, $300.00 for a single, will be due by February 22. Non refundable final payment is due by March 15. We must have 30 participants to go. Deposit checks will not be cashed until the trip is certain.
